T.N., thanks for the friendvite. Three years ago I stepped out of my comfort zone, following the Spirit's prompt, and I entered a whole new world through writing. You won't regret making new friends here!
Glad you're feeling better. I knew something was wrong when I didn't see you promoting your lastest book, which I have read. Maybe we'll meet at the Charlolette Festival.
No matter how shy you feel, I tell my kids, you can always say thank you. But sometimes it's hard to speak our thanks.
"You shouldn't have," we say instead. "You did too much."
Or, "Please. I don't deserve something so extravagant."
Or we nod our heads brusquely and turn away, embarrassed to acknowledge what we've received.
What is it that gets in our way of accepting a gift? Is it our sense of unworthiness? Or at the opposite end of the spectrum, is it our pride? Either way, we're usually looking only at ourselves. Pride and embarrassment aren't so very different from each other; they're both self-conscious.
Thankfulness turns us outward; however, it takes the focus off ourselves. It allows us to reach out and accept what is given to us, simply, honestly, humbly.
And in the end, the truest friendships are built on that simple, honest humility.
Well good for you and us, that you are stepping out of your comfort zone. Welcome. I have a friend who lived in DC then moved moved back to her home town of Concord,NC. An older woman who befriended me when I was in early recovery from addiction. She nurtured me and even took care of me after I had major surgery. Her name is Thelma Smith and her husband's name is Herbert. Perhaps you know of them.
T.N., glad you stepped out! Two and a half years ago, I felt God tugging me to take writing seriously. When I ventured into the world of writing and began to join online groups and my local writers guild, I found friendships and learning I'd never dreamed of. May God bless you in the same way.
NO WAY! Not your list. Are you kidding??? You read like every Christian fiction book that comes out. I am so floored. (Okay...I'm screaming in public). I can't believe I could make your list. That is a Christmas present. Thanks Edgy Sistah!
Well, Rhonda I'm going to go with your book because I'll be starting it this week to post a blog, plus the book club I've finally started is going to read your book as well. Can't wait to hear what everyone else wants. What I've glanced through so f…
All of these seem to be great reads. I'm intrigued by anything dealing with twins since I was one (my twin died before we were born) and now I have 4 year old twin godsons. But I will go with the group's decision.
This spirit comes in when we commit idolatry. Yes, us. We may call ourselves Christians but we still sin and commit idolatry. The Israelites knew the Lord and sinned by idolatry (so many examples but one: 2 Chronicles 25:18). They are a shadow of us…
