Sharina Smith is a poet who loves Fast Company magazine and all the intricacies of business. Sharina is the senior director of marketing and communications for Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. She also serves as an adjunct instructor teaching English Composition I.
Smith began her career as a journalist but was soon lured into the world of public relations. Since then she has had extensive experience in marketing, public relations, advertising, and college development. She has taught Critical Thinking, Developmental Reading and College Study Skills at Missouri State University-West Plains. An author and poet, her writing has appeared in the Southern Baptist Educator, The Bolivar Herlad-Free Press, Sisters in the Lord Magazine, Faith Writers Magazine, Hers Women’s Magazine, Thirty-Seven Cents, and numerous online publications. Her book, Shout for Joy: poems from the journey, chronicles her spiritual journey. Smith is also the Executive Editor of SBU Life magazine.
Smith graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1986 with a B.A. degree in English Literature. In 1993, she earned her M.S. degree in Administration (with a concentration in Leadership for Women) from the West Chester University of Pennsylvania School of Business and Public Affairs, where she was named Outstanding Graduate. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in business administration with a concentration in marketing from Northcentral University.
Smith and her husband, Chuck, have a combined family of four children and are members of South Haven Baptist Church, Springfield, where Smith sings in the adult choir, Upper Chamber Singers and as a soloist. Smith is passionate about reading and good grammar and is a media junkie reading several newspapers, blogs, and magazines each day.
Smith is a professional member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), is Communications Chair for the SWMO Chapter of PRSA, is on the SBU Students in Free Enterprise Business Advisory Board, and is on the executive board of the Bolivar Chamber of Commerce.
Sharina, I have this great picture in my head of you reciting your patriotic poem at age 6 in your sweet red, white, and blue! I wish I hadn't put aside writing for so many years, but I'm glad the Lord prodded me back.
