Profile Information

Please tell us something about who you are!
I am the President and CEO of Christians Overcoming Cancer (COC), a nonprofit organization I founded in the fall of 2006 while in treatment myself for Stage III Breast Cancer.

I have lived a life of incredible experiences, including being married, a mother and a widow by age 25.

While in treatment I confessed that I had enough energy and faith to encourage everyone the Lord allowed me to encountered. From this people often refer to me as a “Faith Giant” and call encounters with me "The Mary Jenkins Experience".

I am a graduate of Savannah State College, Savannah, Georgia and the Bible Way Theological Institute, Columbus, Ohio. I also graduated from Columbus Christian Center’s School of Business and Commerce and completed my Ministry requirements at Columbus Christian Center’s “Ever Increasing Life Ministry Training Center” under the leadership of Drs. David and Tracy Forbes Jr.

In September 2007, I was awarded the Pat Hughes Award of Inspiration by the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the ministry work of the organization. In May 2008, the INCREASE Community Development Corporation chose COC as the Nonprofit Micro Entrepreneur of the Year and FUZE Beverage recognized me as a "Hero for Hope" from the nomination of the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Foundation.

The Lord has blessed and entrusted me with three incredible sons, Edwin, Joseph, and Jerry ages 22, 21, and 18 respectively.

Reflection of time...

Today is my day to reflect time. Not the times as in what has been happening in the world these days but "time" meaning purpose, destiny, the gift given to all of us - that precious 24 hours everyday is He pleased.

Father God in the name of Jesus today I praise You for the gift of time. The gift You have given and entrust me with daily. I thank You Lord for giving me new mercies daily. I thank You Lord for keeping the enemy from me and for protecting me from what I rightfully deserve but You gi… Continue

Today I celebrate....

Today I celebrated the gift of life and health the Lord has given me. To know that He dwelling within me is the treasure in earthen vessel spoken of in the Bible meant more to me today than usual....

Why...

Today Christians Overcoming Cancer served a special client. Dustin... At age 29 weeks Dustin was diagnosed with liver cancer... Yes at just over 7 mon. He couldn't walk, talk or really fend for himself.

At 15 months he had a liver transplant. His little fragile body rejected it so he had t… Continue

Overcoming Cancers in our life....

Overcoming Cancers in our life....

At first glance you may be thinking that I am referring to Breast, Colon, Uterine Cancer or some other form of cancer. Although technically I am, I am inviting you go deeper with me in understanding and higher with me in faith.

Are you ready? The disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith (Luke 17:5)

In order to go where we're heading we must be on one accord...

When I speak of "cancers", as I shared I am not only referring only to a physical cancer. At… Continue

Grace and Peace Mary,
As I read your testimony, I began to think how I am also a cancer survivor. I was also born with a congenital disease. I didn't find out until we went through my mother's papers after she passed, I have had so many blood transfusions from the age of 6 months, they doctors just knew I would not live to see age one, They said I just laid in a fetal position from birth to age one. I have my records from Childrens' Hospital in Columbus where they said, I'd be retarded and have to be institutionalized. But I'm so glad, God has the final say so. Not only did I finish High School, I also went to school to become a Computer Programmer. I worked at the Telephone Company as an Operator for over 20 years and in the Columbus City Schools for twelve years. When the Doctors didn't believe I had the ability to think on my own, perhaps they didn't Understand,"God is in Control." We serve an awesome God.

Greetings Mary,

Your presence on SistahFaith is a blessing. I hope you find this space a place of comfort where you are loved and accepted for the wonderfully, fearfully-made person that you are.

When you get a moment stop by my page and check out my live story blog, Mixed Company. Until next we speak, God bless.

Oh, Mary,
What a beautiful CALL FROM HEAVEN you have! Your words strummed my heartstrings. I have often wondered if there was a way to have a "CANCER"vive (can survive) Tea Party for those dear souls who are dealing with cancer. (whether it is them personally or their loved ones)

God bless you, Mary. The world would be a better place if there were more Mary Jenkins spreading His "SON"shine.

Hugz,
Dixie
